Raiser's Edge 7 - Phone "Do Not Contact" Import Field name

Options
I am trying to find the import field name for the "DNC" on the phone/email grid.  I seem to remember having an issue with this when I tried to mass updated records with what was supposed to be the correct fieldname about a year ago.  I cannot find any reference to the field name when I created an emport file to get the field names for the phone imports. I need to import a lot of new phone numbers and will need to mark several of them as DNC during the import.  Does anyone have an answer to this?

  • Unfortunately I'm not aware of any way to add the DNC flag in bulk using either import or global change, however I would love someone to reply and tell me I'm wrong about this as it's incredibly frustrating!

The ImportOmatic plug-in from Omatic Software does allow the DNC flag to be set when importing phone numbers, and we use it to update all of our obsolete phones and emails from telephone appeals. I know a lot of organisations change the phone type to something like "old phone" rather than using DNC, but we like to retain the original type for analysis purposes.
  • Any phone updates are incredibly frustrating because we do not have access to all the fields.  I am still amazed at this.  I wished that we did have the ability everywhere in the system to see all fields whether it's via query, exports, etc.  It takes me much longer than it should when I do phone/email updates just because I don't have access to the phoneimport ids in query.  I have to export them all into Excel, then move everything into a verticle list just to find the numbers I need to update.  Trying to do this all on one row, especially when there are duplicate phone/email numbers takes forever.
  • If you want the import IDs but don't want the numbers to be all on one row, I can recommend changing the export format to Access rather than Excel and then designing a query in Access or report in Crystal Reports that will return all the numbers vertically rather than horizontally. If you went for the Crystal option, you could set it up as a custom report so it would be accessible from within RE.

I have a Crystal Report set up that I use to export all the phone numbers for our telephone appeals and it works well. When I run it I just need to specify in the query which group of constituents I want the numbers for, and then export the data from Crystal.

Thanks for the tip.  It sure does suck that we have to do more work to get something that should already be accessible.

I'm a new RE customer, recent migration from eTapestry, and want to just reply to add my voice to the need for this particular field to be accessible in the import tool.  For various reasons we had a lot of emails that were either only in eTapestry or Constant Contact, and our team was very excited to be able to merge the two sets of lists together in RE for use through Online Express. I just completed a migration of our Constant Contact email lists to RE and it was stunning that the only way to replicate the list of unsubscribes (about 1500) from Constant Contact was to go and enter this manually.  Having this field accessible in import would have saved me hours.

  • STILL a problem!!!!!!!
  •  When I need to update this field en masse, I have to do a direct update on the PHONES table.  This is only possible if you know SQL, and have full access to the back-end database.  I always backup the table first.
