What is the recency PCTL, the frequency PCTL and the monetary value PCTL?

There is a task you can run called the RFM Segmentation. This task allows you to rank and segment constituents based on recency/frequency and monetary value of their donations. The results can then be found in these fields: recency PCTL, frequency PCTL and the monetary value PCTL.

Once this task is run, you can use these as fields in a query.

  • The Convio Help documentation gives the following definitition for Frequency PCTL: Constituent's percentile ranking among the most to least frequent of your donors (where, for example, 10% would indicate the constituent was in the top ten percent of your most frequent donors).

However, I have a donor who gives a sustaining monthly donation. Based on the description above, I'd expect it to be 10 or lower.  However, her Constituent 360 record shows a Frequency PCTL is 100.  Why?

Recency PCTL is defined by Convio as: Constituent's percentile ranking based on how recently the constituent made a donation relative to other donors.  This same donor has a Recency PCTL of 95.

Monetary value PCTL is defined as: Constituent's percentile ranking based on total dollar amount contributed relative to your other donors (where, for example, a 10% ranking would place the constituent's donations in the top ten percent of actual dollars).  This constituent's Monetary value PCTL is 93.

  • It appears that you found some incorrect documentation.  I did a quick search and didn't find it, so if you can post a link to it I'll pass it on to the doc. team for correction.

The percentiles are actually the opposite of what is described in the text that you quoted: 100% is the top (most recent, frequent and highest total).  So a value of 90% indicates being in the top 10%.
