Minus numbers and edit commands

Options

When doing a batch, we need to enter minus numbers.  We cannot do it so are there any plans

to change this?

Also, when entering a batch why cannot we not use some of the edit commands like copy and

paste when I want to add to a batch?

Thank you

Have no idea on the - numbers.

I use copy & paste (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V) frequently while in batch in addtion to changing defaults.  Are there certain fields that you want?  I can see how it could create issues for some fields with incorrect data or type of data.

If there is data that is repetitive, like letter code and fund, appeal, etc., you can set those up in defaults for that batch and you do not have to copy and paste in them.  Basically, you cannot copy and paste in the fields that have drop-downs.

You can however, copy and paste in any of the other fields during batch entry.  I do it all the time with the reference field or check numbers/dates.  I include the constit ID in the batch so that if you are entering multiple gifts from one constit, but as separate entries, one you have identified their record you can just enter the constit ID on the next line entry.

And correct -- you cannot enter negative numbers in RE.  Why would you want to??  In the 7 years I have been using RE, there has only been ONE unusual incident where negative numbers was an issue.  I can explain how it was resolved and why there were negative numbers.  If anyone else is interested I will post the story here -- otherwise contact me directly (ccooke@charlesarmstrong.org) and I will give you work around that I worked out by teaming with RE and the Finance Department of the organization at the time.

  • I actually have a situation where I would like to enter a negative amount in my batch.  Can you share with me what your work-around was?  anna.conner@ahss.org

    Thanks much, Anna
