Spam report / tbody tag

In email construction, at the Send Review Email screen (step 6), there's also a choice to run a Spam Report to evaluate the email before it's sent. That report *invariably* has this note: "[Score] 0.1 [explanation] HTML_TAG_EXISTS_TBODY HTML has "tbody" tag [Solution] Remove TBODY tag".

You all may know, if you work in the HTML side of email construction, that the system *automatically* adds TBODY tags, even if you remove them consistently or don't include them in the original code. !!

Along with other issues in working in the HTML pop-up screen (the fact that the system de-formats all the code and mashes it together, no matter what I do to it), I would love to see this fixed. Any chance? Has anyone else found a workaround for either of these issues?

Hello Gurukarm,

Are you using the plain-text editor when pasting your code in for the e-mail? This is different than the WYSIWYG and does not add <tbody> tags to your code for the purposes of the Spam report.

Thanks for responding, Philip. A couple of things - since I am relatively new to this position, and currently we copy previous, similar, emails when creating new ones (previous asks and/or event announcements, for instance) - I'm actually using someone else's code, essentially. Which I often spend some amount of time cleaning up.

Second, no, I have up to now always used the Edit HTML Source button, rather than Plain Text Editor. It's really just a habit, not anything else. I rarely actually edit within the WYSIWYG, in part because doing so definitely adds weird things to the code like unwanted <span> tags. I'm assuming your suggestion is that the editor behaves differently from the HTML pop-up? Maybe I need to change my habits!

Always fun taking over someone else's code. :-)

If you are using an external editor (Notepad, TextPad, etc) the code from that editor will copy exactly into the plain text editor. This will save you a lot of potential issues. (formatting, Spam issue, etc)

Just so you know, Blackbaud recommends not using anything but the plain text editor. It was stated at a session at BBCon two years ago.

I did not know about that recommendation, so thanks for that info. I definitely need to change my habits then!

One of our summer projects at my org is to revise email templates, both because they're in need of updating/modernization, and because they're not currently responsive (<gasp!>) - so creating new templates with good code will really help us overall, too.

(and if you want to have edit as html as a default instead of the wysiwyg, you can change your global settings. In the upper right, select the down arrow next to your name which opens your admin preferences. You can then uncheck use the wysiwyg box)
