DeceasedRecordFinder

Our organization is looking into purchasing the DeceasedRecordFinder and my executive wants to know what other organizations are seeing in their results. Are the records returned acurate? Does this service give a significant return of records?

  • We have subscribed every year for the past several- we have run into a few incorrect matches (father vs. son, mother vs. daughter, etc.) but they really have been few and far between.  Other than that I have been very happy with it and will continue our subscription.
  • Yes, we used it - or, another version of it from another vendor. It was very helpful. I don't think we had ever run the service before, so there was quite a bit of accumulation. We discovered maybe one or two errancies, but compared to the hundreds of deceased people we had been wasting postage on, it was more than worthwhile.
  • We've used it both for primary donor and the spouse screenings.  We also had good results.  We have only discovered about 2 out of over 900 returned results that were marked mistakenly as deceased.  If anything, I've found that the screening did not catch some of the deceased that a simple online search easily returned (using either Google or Legacy.com).
  • I've used it and found the results to be pretty good.  Look out for Jr/Sr because it does not account for suffixes. I reccomend it to every organization I work with.
  • We are also considering Deceased Record Finder. Has anyone considered/used alternatives to BlackBaud's Deceased Record Finder, and if so why didn't you use Deceased Record Finder, and what were the results with the other product?

We used AlumniSync and were very happy with them and the results. Their prices are very reasonable and they integrate with Raiser's Edge. Several of their key people have much experience with Blackbaud having worked for them for many years.

We also have good results and run it every 2 years. We've found it to be very accurate.

  • I'm interested in benchmarking to know how often your organization uses Deceased Record Finder. More than once a year; once a year; or every 2 years or more?

Are there options to have this added as an attribute and not to fill in the deceased checkbox?  Does it provide the Deceased date?)

We are currently running it once a year, and find, like the others, very good returns on our data that is clean.  I would echo the watch out for suffixes, because it does tend to confuse Jr. and Sr., for example, but we are definitely going to keep doing it.  The way it comes back into my database (and I'm curious if this is how it is for everyone) is as an attribute, then we take that attribute and either globally check the deceased checkbox with an export/import so we can grab the actual date off the attribute, or do it one by one in the ones that are suspicious looking to us.
