Campaign Reporting in NXT

Options
We are looking at moving to NXT.  Our campaigns were set up more like Fiscal year appeal structure than a campaign.  We are currently in a campaign and I'm looking for insight in how I should prepare my database for NXT.  Since most reports appear to be canned in NXT is there a document that I can use to help get our database ready for reporting the correct Campaign information?

The reports aren't canned in NXT. You have the ability to set parameters for the reports yourself and they are still adding functionality to NXT every month. It's a work in progress. You can choose the campaign you want to view for your report so that shouldn't be an issue for you.

If you move to NXT one thing to remember is that you don't loose your current database view of RE. You can still do everything that you currently do in that.

  • To add to Karen's post...you should expect (especially for a DBA or any data entry work) to be spending a significant amount of time in RE:7.  NXT is being built by role, and right now it's for the Fundraiser & Director.  Do not expect a completed and fully functional product...it's not.  However, in my opinion, that's a great thing.  Because you can add/vote/comment on Ideas in the NXT Idea Bank, as well as participate in Discovery Calls.  Both of these things help the software designers determine the what/how/when of their work and in the end, we'll have a product that is far better than what would be created without input from folks actually using the product.  Remember that software designers aren't fundraisers...  =)

Reports, in the NXT Analyze section, are very new, and still require some work.  I would advise holding off on overhauling any data in your database (unless it's already on the list for other reasons) until you're live in NXT and can figure out if it works as-is for you.  And then determine from the Idea Bank, Discovery Calls, and topics here in the Community whether future functionality and features will necessitate the change in your data or if you just need to wait a while until you can use a particular report/piece of NXT.

The one exception is Media.  If you have Media in RE:7, that could be a different story.  If you have a significant amount of Media, contact me and I'll fill you in on what I know and have experienced.  (Again, while it is rather painful right now, it will be far better in the long run.)

It's getting a little old/dated, but here's a blog post I wrote about NXT...explore other posts in the NXT Blog as well, and request reference calls from your Account Manager (then make them).
  • Thank you for your responses.  with our current campaign structure I'm unable to use the delivered reports in RE7 for our campaign reporting.  I export the gifts into excel to create our campaign reporting based on various criteria so I think I may need to do some clean up on the campaigns in RE7.   For example in our current actual campaign there could be over 100 'campaigns'.  The 100 campaigns are really more like appeals.  The users (fundraisers and execs/directors) won't know which ones to pull into the report and it could cause a lot of confusion.

Hoping to get some guidance on how to approach getting the campaign structure set up in RE7 prior to going live.  Oh, and we use split fund allocations on gifts so the campaigns need to be updated at the fund split level.

When you say the reports are customizable can you explain?  Can I set up the criteria and push the report out to the users?  Or do the users need to select the filters (view)?

Thanks for the tip on media - Yes we do have quite a bit.
