PowerUp Challenge: First Standard Reports Task

I ran the report and it provided a very summary list that could be a helpful glance. Without any other kind of filter we're unlikely to use this report.

@Crystal Bruce how exciting that more things are getting moved over to NXT! I am still a database girlie through and through but am TRYING to move over. I would love to see a preview option of the report before running it. Always like to make sure I am getting exactly what I need.

@Crystal Bruce, I love the option to run them in CSV format. It makes working with the data so much more convenient!

@Crystal Bruce This has long been one of my favourite reports so I'm happy it's made the move to web view. I find it behaves just like the original. My only quirk is that when you want both the detail and the summary, it's in two separate documents, and I can see myself missing that and only remembering to save one of them.
I personally like the it running asynchronous. Like a few others have said I do wish I could schedule it to be emailed, the current schedule doesn't really help for what I would like to do.

This report was super easy to run. I love that I can run it and then keep working as it processes and come back to it once it's finished. Very helpful!0 -
@Crystal Bruce
I like the new format and how you can choose your filters. Seems much more user friendly and easy to navigate once you get used to it. Running in the background while continuing to work is also a big bonus.0 -
@Crystal Bruce In database view, this was one of my key reports! Being able to generate this report now in NXT is a refreshing update to the web view. It's a great update that you can now run the report and stay in the system and complete other tasks.

@Crystal Bruce
I find the summary reports invaluable, and webview reporting is intuitive.0 -
@Crystal Bruce, Standard Reports feature in RE NXT lives up to the hype. Lots of options for defining and refining the report make this a wonderfully flexible tool; and the asynchronous processing let's me run the report while tending to other database matters. I can see strong potential for leveraging this for better data analysis.

@Crystal Bruce I'm not sure I love the asynchronous processing. If I start doing other things I'm just going to get sidetracked and forget to go back and click the button to get my report. It is easy to miss the notification that it is ready if you are focused elsewhere, so It would be nice if the report automatically popped up when it was finished instead of having to make extra clicks. The reports don't take that long in the first place, so chances are I'm just going to sit here waiting for it to be done, so I can click to open it and finish the task at hand versus moving on and having to come back.

@Crystal Bruce The enhancement for me is the way the data exports to CSV. I use this report and manipulate it in Excel with Power Query and Pivot Tables. Now the data lines up properly and I don't have to delete an empty cell to line the headings up, which I couldn't figure out how to do in Power Query.

@Crystal Bruce
The thing that bothers me about running reports in web view is trying to close out of the report dialog when I am finished. Is it too much to ask for just adding a CLOSE button instead of CANCEL? No one wants to be canceled these days! ?2 -
@Crystal Bruce the reports are easy to run and web view is much more user friendly!

I was really hoping for more helpful error reporting, but I figured out the “Unexpected error” after a few tries - the actual answer was that there were no records that met the criteria. I'm a fan of the freedom to keep working while the report is running, and as soon as I remember to open reporting in a new tab each time, it will be even more helpful.1 -
@Crystal Bruce The ability to complete other tasks while this is running is game changing.

@Crystal Bruce standard reports are very useful, and the asynchronous processing is great for reports that I want to run monthly to process automatically. I do however agree with Tracy Jones' comment, I do worry about missing the notification.

@Crystal Bruce. Are you guys going to go through all of the comments to determine who did the tasks?? This is a great idea and would love to see infrastructure to support it.
My experience:
“Anonymous format” isn't self explanatory to me. Wish it had an info bubble. < for anyone confused, it's whether or not the report will sub anonymous gift donor names with “Anonymous” to keep their info fully off the report or just use an asterisk to clarify that this is an anonymous gift.
If the max time for report generation isn't very high, then ignore this note, but if it can be higher than expected, the report running in the background with no option to check progress could cause issues.
Date filters need an info bubble reminding what “a week” is (Sun-Monday??). LOVE the additional fiscal and calendar year options here. Very helpful.Love that you can include custom fields to include/exclude. Really excited you can display them by their addressee/salutation/name tags (format tab). < You can even toggle that source on and off, without losing the settings you had there previously. Thoughtful.
I like that “run” doesn't save the report (seems like it doesn't, at least), so you can change your mind if it's not working how you envisioned.0 -
@Crystal Bruce
That is so easy to use in NXT. I love the csv format, saves so much time in reformatting!0 -
@Crystal Bruce
I definitely like that export to csv is a very present option. Asynchronous processing is awesome!The edit menu is intuitive.
I miss the ability to preview the report without having to download and clutter my computer though. Sometimes I only need to glance at the numbers.
I wish you could click anywhere on the report title to highlight and open it. Needing to go to the 3 dots for the full menu of options is a little tedious.

@Crystal Bruce
Pros- Being able to schedule and share ?
- Details - Wonderful that this has its own tab now.
- Addresses - this layout is much more intuitive.
- Format - Thank you for keeping the ability for us to decide on the Name Formats ?
- Much easier to read the end results!
Cons
- Filters - won't allow inactive Appeals, Campaigns, Funds, etc.
- Gift types - Doesn't allow naming of the Columns here. Having to go back and forth between Gift Types and Columns tab is a bit clumsy and has a higher potential of mislabeling important data.

I really like being able to send the report right to .csv and how it is much cleaner than exporting to .csv from db. I have to admit I forgot I kicked off the report and started doing other stuff and then remembered a couple hours later to go back and look for the report.

@Crystal Bruce as a newcomer to NXT, I have enjoyed learning about Reports and think that this Gift Detail and Summary report is a good overview. There is more information that I sometimes want to include, but that might be a function of my knowledge level. I do like having a .csv function, as I like to sort in various ways, and the report seems to only allow for sorting of 2 columns.

@Keith Wilson
Along these lines, I find myself duplicating the tab to see the Recently Run Reports separately. This way, I can see my results and also have the option to adjust my report without closing/cancelling.1 -
@Crystal Bruce
I like the addition of those extra fields “maiden name” and "balance forward, and I love the scheduling option.As with queries, not having the ability to select inactive appeals, etc. is a real problem. Also, if we're selecting a query to use, we need to be able to choose them from folders, not just a list of everything.

Very nice to be able to run and schedule reports. It would be nice to be able to filter by fundraiser.

@Crystal Bruce It is nice to be able to see the commonalities between WebView and Database View. I currently am completing specific tasks in one or the other.

@Crystal Bruce I look forward to scheduling reports for availability each morning.

@Crystal Bruce the Gift Detail and Summary Report in DB view automatically shows me the sum at the bottom of each column. How do I do that in web view?
0 -
@Crystal Bruce
I really like the schedule and share features. I'm newer to reports and queries, as I don't work with them as often, so it was difficult to remember what I needed to do in database view. The ability to keep working while reports are running is also nice. I'll need to spend some more time in here and explore how to shape more complex reports.0 -
@Crystal Bruce
I enjoy having a CSV option, and more detail added to the report as well!0
