Connect RE: Breaking links in Core

Options

Does anyone have any tips or best practice on when/if you break links from Core to RE, and have the records live only in RE once the constituent is no longer an enrolled student or connected to an enrolled student? This would be recent graduates (new alums) and parents and grandparents that will become past parents, past grandparents? We obviously have way more records in RE than Core, so I'm wondering if we need to continue to manage those records in both places once they are no longer students or connected to enrolled students?

@Kate Pearson when I was in a school, the registrar “owned” the students and their parents - all of whom were synced to RE. If the Advancement team learned of an address, phone, or email update, they would always notify the registrar first and we would synchronize our changes.

When the student graduated, they were unlinked and the Advancement team could do what they wanted. The registrar still owned the parent records if they had other enrolled students. Once the last children graduated, the parents were unlinked and Advancement could make any changes without running them past the registrar.

It was a school with 2000 enrolled students, so a pretty large group. It was completely manageable.
