The Senior Manager, Philanthropy Operations is an essential member of a 6-person team that manages the National Park Foundation’s database of record, Philanthropy operations, incoming donations, donor services, and data files for the Philanthropy division. This role sits within the larger Strategic Operations department, which supports the National Park Foundation’s comprehensive and growing fundraising program.

As a member of the larger Philanthropy division, the Senior Manager, Philanthropy Operations, manages the integrated support system that enables NPF’s Philanthropy Team to fundraise effectively for the organization. The Senior Manager acts as the primary database administrator and liaison to Philanthropy for gift and donor records, gift accounting, and implementing new systems-related strategies.

Based in Washington, DC, this full-time position supervises two team members and works closely with members of the Strategic Operations and Philanthropy teams to ensure the integrity of the organization’s data and department policies, procedures, and day-to-day activities are streamlined, efficient, and can be scaled as the NPF constituent base continues to grow. The Senior Manager, Philanthropy Operations reports directly to the Director, Data and Constituent Management.

Essential Functions/Duties/Tasks:

• Serve as the lead administrator, internal specialist, and first point of contact for Raiser’s Edge NXT and Luminate Online databases.
• Manage ongoing maintenance and audits of NXT, Luminate Online, and other systems and tools supporting the organization’s fundraising efforts.
• Supervise Coordinator, Data and Constituent Management: Lead data team efforts for managing data hygiene and record maintenance, data extractions (with heavy support for the direct marketing program), and mass-scale data importing.
• Supervise Specialist, Gift Processing: Manage and maintain internal processes related to gift processing and coding to ensure gifts are processed and receipted in a timely manner.
• Enforce best practices for entering and extracting data from NXT and Luminate Online.
• Update policy manuals for data management and overall use of NPF’s constituent relationship management system; enforce policies and procedures to ensure efficiency and data integrity in constituent management systems.
• Maintain overall relationship with NPF’s caging vendor, Moore, and assist with contract management, system performance, best practices, disaster recovery, and training.
• Evaluate and recommend new tools to increase efficiency, leverage staff time and talents, and enhance NPF’s ability to improve data enhancements, process improvements, and fundraising activity data visualization.
• Proactively assist users in determining more efficient ways to utilize RE/NXT and support end users when errors and issues arise; train staff on using the RE/NXT database.
• Perform related duties as assigned, within scope of practice.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Previous supervisory experience is a must.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of nonprofit fundraising and advancement operations, gift administration, database administration, records management and supervision of staff.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong customer service orientation and ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical subjects to non-technical audiences and identify effective and cost-effective technical solutions to meet fundraiser needs.
• Excellent organizational skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and using logic and analysis to troubleshoot software problems.
• Ability to exercise critical thinking skills to prepare solution-driven approaches to complex problems.
• Ability to work independently, with minimal oversight of job duties.
• Ability to engage and inspire team members.

Preferred education and experience:

• At least 5 years’ experience in relational databases, database reporting, and/or development operations.
• At least 3 years of successful supervisory experience.
• Previous advanced RE/NXT and Luminate Online experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

The National Park Foundation offers a competitive salary and benefits program. Starting compensation for this opportunity is $85,000 and is commensurate with the level of experience of the candidate. This position is a hybrid and onsite role at NPF’s newly designed headquarters in Washington, DC and will have access to an onsite fitness facility, exciting downtown Washington, DC community and a variety of metro stations. Candidates must be based in the DMV area.
