    Elissa,

While importing contacts from Yahoo! and AOl can be done automatically through the API, participants can still import contacts from any email service as long as that service has the ability to export the contact records to a .csv file. This includes Hotmail. Here is a link to the section in our HelpCenter that shows how this can be done: http://help.convio.net/site/PageServer?pagename=User_Tributes_AddressBook_default#ImportContacts_OtherAddressBook

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks

I know people can import a csv file but for older audiences - which generally constitutes a lot of charities' supporter base - this is an extra step which can be complicated.

My question is if there are any plans to have an API for hotmail, given it is a popular web-based email provider to make this as easy as possible for supporters to use these tools?

I haven't seen anything in this upcoming release information that says this will be available with the summer release. I would recommend visiting Convio Ideas in your support portal and searching to see if this has already been submitted as a product enhancement and vote for it or add it if it hasn't already been submitted.

There is a HotMail API, which would also be required.

It does seem a little odd to me to only support Hotmail, who's marketshare is falling domestically and is dwarfed by Yahoo.

EDIT: I just saw Kent's comment "While importing contacts from Yahoo! and AOl can be done automatically through the API" Oops, I thought we lost those with Plaxo.

    Thanks Brian!

I'm not super technical, is it possible to implement this API ourselves or you were letting Convio know?

I think older audiences are still using hotmail, from our experience anyways - and they seem to be the ones who are the least web-savvy so hoping to make this as easy as possible for them.

I was looking at these stats http://www.campaignmonitor.com/resources/will-it-work/email-clients/ but thanks for sharing yours!

    Thanks,

    Elissa

I think between the Convio API and the Hotmail API we could probably build an import tool ourselves.

It would certainly be fairly complicated to make. And I also wonder about integrating it nicely with the pages leading to the Yahoo and AOL imports.
