Is there a way to have a registrant change their own Participation Type?

Options

For various reasons, we are considering allow most of our registrants to register for our event without logging/creating an account, since most will not be doing fundraising, or accessing discounts only available to some security groups.

To that end, I'm thinking of 1) using the new feature available in 2013Q1 that removes the user login step from the process, and 2) disabling the fundraising option for default participation types.

My question -- can registrants themselves convert their participation type to another to allow for fundraising? Or do we, as admins, have to do this for them?

We're really trying to balance two things:

* most registrants won't be fundraising

* we want to lower the barrier to entry for registrants who may want to fundraise, now or in the future.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

    Mike,

There is not a way for participants to change their participation unless they are changing from a team to an individual or vice versa. An event admin will have to do this each time. As for not forcing people to create a record, I'm not sure how plan to do this. Can you show me where you're seeing info on a "not create a record" configuration? I haven't seen anything on this that I can recall. I know there is a configuration where you can force a login for existing members in your housefile but not creating a record is a new one for me.

    Thanks,

    Kent

    Kent,

Thanks for your answer on the changing participation types.

I should clarify myself about not creating a record.  By doing two configuration steps, we can change the registration process for the majority of our registrants and basically hide the from them the fact that they have a username/password. The first is by setting the "Returning User Login Page Location" to "None. Then, for participation types that do not involve fundraising or access to a membership discount (which requires them to login to verify that they're in the correct security group), set the "Fundraising Enabled" option to "No".
