Is there a way to allow families to use one email address when registering as participants in TeamRaiser, while still having the unique email address functionality turned on for the overall Convio site?

Yes, that's how we have it. Contact tech support to set that configuration for you. 

 

It's worth spending a bit considering the implications. Here's the big ones I can think of, perhaps others will chime in too.

 

Convio broadcast email does not de-dup.

If two constittuents have the same email address, then they will receive two of the same email.

 

Recover Username and Password breaks

If they enter their email address to recover their UN/PW, the system will only send the first registration using it. This makes the other accounts unrecoverable without your help.

 

EMail is no longer a unique key

Obvious perhaps, but this will mean that you can't positively id a constituent by their email address. When resolving duplicates, you might mistakenly merge Brian Mucha Sr. and Brian Mucha Jr. if you aren't careful.

When we enable this feature for our client we also ask support to enable it so that we can have the same email address registered twice for the same TR event, however, the name and email combination must be unique. That means I could not register twice as Test Smith - with testsmith@gmail.com but I could register twice asTest Smith and Baby Smith, both using testsmith@gmail.com

 

Since most family member don't share exactly the same name, this reduces that number of true dupes you will get.
