Location: Hybrid opportunity - remote/on site Fort Pierce, FL as needed

Organizational Overview

Save the Chimps operates the largest privately funded chimpanzee sanctuary in the world. Located on nearly 150 acres on the Treasure Coast of Florida, the Sanctuary provides high quality lifetime medical and behavioral care and enrichment for chimpanzees rescued from research laboratories, entertainment, and the pet trade.

Save the Chimps was established in 1997 and is home to over 225 chimpanzees. The work of the organization is accomplished by a nonprofit board of directors, approximately 80 full-time staff, and a number of community volunteers.

Essential Job Functions

Contribute as a key member to development team by assisting with writing, communication strategies and content development for individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners. Key responsibilities include:

  • Draft, edit, proofread and produce funding requests, donor reports, newsletters, and memos.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors through communications, including emails, mailings, and direct donor contact.
  • Manage donor data, including data entry, analytics and queries, and mail-merge ready files.
  • Execute mailings and other digital and fundraising content, including talking points PowerPoint presentations.

Education, Job Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable work experience required.
  • 1+ years of work experience: fundraising, marketing, or communications experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google/Amazon platforms for business communications.
  • Experience with graphic designs, or interest in learning a plus.
  • Experience with CRM database management preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, along with an ability to compose and edit thoughtful and strategic communications across a variety of platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, while maintaining a firm grasp on individual project details and deadlines.
  • Strong, detail-oriented organizational skills are required, as well as the ability to follow projects through to completion.

Must be able to pass a pre-hire drug screen and a criminal background check. Also due to the safety risk to the chimps, it is an essential function of the position to have received the COVID-19 vaccine series along with several other vaccinations and have a negative Tb test.
