The Prevent Blindness office is located in downtown Chicago on Wacker Driver, overlooking the Chicago River.

THE ROLE

The Development Manager oversees planning of all special events, donor relations and management, planned giving, and other development functions. This position reports to the Director of Development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees planning of all special events including budgets, manages special events committee members, coordinates all special events meetings and takes minutes, secures event locations, prepares all needed printed materials, and handles all event logistics and thank you letters
  • Coordinates all donor relations and management including serving as administrator for Raiser’s Edge NXT, sends gift acknowledgements, contacts individuals for stewardship, assists with direct mail, and prepares mailings for board/committee members and employees
  • Assists with planned giving including budgets, mailing lists, and maintaining Legacy Society
  • Assists with all other functions assigned by supervisor

IDEAL EXPERIENCE AND CHARACTERISTICS

  • Undergraduate degree in business or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, events management, or similar responsibilities
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar fundraising database preferred
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to distinguish what is significant and to set priorities
  • Ability to carry on simultaneously a variety of programs and activities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This is a 37.5-hour a week position with full benefits based in Chicago
  • The Prevent Blindness staff is working a hybrid schedule and is taking all necessary precautions due to COVID
  • This role requires working at the Chicago location 2-3 times a week
  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to regularly communicate with others and to operate office equipment such as computers, cellphones, calculators, photocopiers, scanners and filing cabinets and must have the ability to sit for long periods of time
  • The workplace is a smoke-free and drug-free environment
