Adding non-Constituents

Options

Our company is only subscribed for so many Constituents. We have people that are not a constituent and want to be taken off the mailing list. I don't want to add these people as full constituents but as a non-constituent and put solicitation code of DO NOT MAIL.

How do I add a person as a non-Constituent?

If a person/org has a record in RE they are a “constituent.” The only recording of individuals in the system who are not constituents are those who are relationships on a constituent record.

I'm not aware of any way to have records for people in the system just to have them marked ‘no mail.' They would have to have a record to mark - thus per BB be ‘constituents.'

@JoAnn Strommen is correct. The moment you make a record for them in RE, they ARE a constituent. My gut here, though, suggests to backtrack a little. You say these people are not currently in your database, but they are contacting you wanting to be removed. How did they receive mail from you if you are pulling your mailing lists from RE, and they are not in RE?

We rent mailing lists 2-3 times a year as part of our Acquisition program, and when that happens, we get dozens of calls asking to be removed, from people who are not in our database because their names were just rented for a single mailing. We accommodate this by keeping an excel list of all such names and addresses. When it's time to rent a new list, we send the excel file, as well as our house file, to the rental broker for them to purge names. Perhaps your solution lies in assessing your entire process as well, not just RE functionality.
