The Director of Public Grants raises major- level grants from public entities (federal, state and local) in support of Ascentria’s programs and operations across the New England. They oversee grants and donor information management, i.e., identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward funders and grant awards. The Director of Public Grants partners with Ascentria’s leadership, program directors, and finance department, to ensure that high-quality and accurate proposals and reports are submitted in a timely manner to donors and internally.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the public grants work plan, including:
    • Quantifiable and attainable goals and clear fundraising outcomes
    • Comprehensive calendar for all grant requests and stewardship deadlines, and income projections and results for each grant submission.
    • Work with directors and managers to prioritize Ascentria programs and initiatives funding needs, align with current and potential funders’ interests and prioritize opportunities for support.
  • Write and submit grant applications on behalf of Ascentria.
  • Work with Contracts and Grants Supervisor to review and provide oversight of the completion of proposals and applications of public funding for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the policies and procedures of Ascentria Care Alliance.
  • Write and/or edit reports to funders, including:
    • Working with directors and managers to gather data for evaluation and reporting requirements.
    • Coordinating funder site visits.
    • Ensuring that reports are submitted on a timely basis, according to the requested guidelines.
  • Keep abreast of programmatic changes, data, and stories that are useful in the preparation of grant proposals and reports. Assist other Ascentria staff who are preparing grants.
  • Prepare written and statistical reports for various internal audiences as appropriate. Plan, coordinate and track grant submissions and related activities using Raiser’s Edge, and help to ensure proper internal coding of grant awards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in grant writing and administration.
  • Demonstrated fundraising success in government and/or foundation grants, preferably in a social services setting.
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage and track multiple prospects and funders.
  • Experience effectively building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and website applications.
  • Proficient with Raiser’s Edge fundraising database or similar database.
  • Ability to analyze and compile technical and statistical information to prepare proposals, reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to review/edit the work products of others to ensure conformance to funding and reporting standards.
  • Ability to work effectively independently, and collaboratively, as a part of multiple teams, in a fast-paced, complex, and dynamic work environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and excellent organizational skills with the ability to quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks with short deadlines.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Ability to travel throughout the New England region (10-15%).
