Assistant Director Donor Relations Naming Opportunities - Boston, MA

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations (Recognition), the Assistant Director of Donor Relations (Naming Opportunities) is responsible for managing the guiding principles and associated recognition for the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) naming opportunities initiatives, including capital campaigns and the BWH Distinguished Chair and Harvard Medical School (HMS) Professorship programs, in collaboration with BWH, HMS, and Mass General Brigham (MGB) colleagues. In this newly created role, the Assistant Director will be a strategic partner, helping to answer naming opportunity and fund minimum-related questions, and enabling BWH to provide consistent and exceptional experiences for our most generous supporters, as well as internal and external partners.

The Development Office offers a hybrid flexible schedule.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the full complement of naming opportunities including programs and initiatives, endowed and current-use funds (e.g., Fellowships and BWH Distinguished Chairs), clinics and centers, and physical spaces (i.e., capital).
- Drive the development of new naming opportunities, including those affected by renovation or new construction projects on the Brigham campus. With the Director of Donor Relations (Recognition) and senior leaders, evaluate and refine the naming opportunity policies and guidelines, and inform colleagues of changes.
- Collaborate with fundraising colleagues on proposals and with Donor Relations colleagues on accompanying materials for new gifts. Enhance existing collateral and develop innovative new content to help increase and convey the overall impact of programmatic and capital giving.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the BWH Distinguished Chair and Professorship programs, including tracking incumbents and prompting Hospital leadership when there are vacancies, assisting in the appointment process, tracking fundraising efforts against goals, and educating colleagues on the programs.
- On behalf of the Brigham Development Office, liaise with the Office of the President on the HMS Professorship program.
- Initiate the announcement and event planning processes to dedicate and celebrate donor named positions, programs, and spaces. Write event-related materials, including proclamations and follow-up notes to key event participants and speakers. Work with the Donor Relations Recognition Officer to oversee event-related stewardship items, like captain’s chairs and photobooks, as well as work with Gift Officers to identify areas where additional stewardship is necessary.
- Partner with Information Systems colleagues on the implementation of a capital naming section within the Constituent Relationship Management database. With the Donor Relations Recognition Officer, ensure the proper documentation of naming opportunities and donor-related data once established. Provide colleagues with resources to locate this information and address frequently asked questions.
- Oversee the installation, maintenance, and inventory of plaques and signage to ensure donors feel recognized and appreciated. Partner with Donor Relations colleagues, BWH Facilities, and signage vendors to coordinate signage production and installation. Collaborate with Operations and the Donor Relations Coordinator to process signage-related invoices.
- Serve as the go-to resource for colleagues with questions about fund minimums and naming opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required, with 4 to 6 years of experience in Development or Donor Relations.
- Proven project management experience.
- Ability to master and adapt existing processes, or create new ones, to ensure a leading-edge donor services program.
- Excel in writing, editing, and proofreading materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong commitment to customer service and quality standards.
SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple high-level priorities with simultaneous deadlines.
- Ability to work under limited direction to resolve a diverse range of complex problems and use judgment to elevate problems which conflict with defined policies and practices.
- Ability to work with individuals at all levels, to obtain approvals respectfully, and to explain, delegate, and oversee work done by others.
- Exceptional and proven written and verbal communication skills required.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and fundraising databases (e.g., Blackbaud CRM). Familiarity with fundraising databases and design software (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign).
- Exhibited professionalism and integrity.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
