Position Summary Information
The Director of Advancement Services will craft and implement the strategic vision for Advancement Services, develop priorities and corresponding individual and departmental metrics which align with the University Advancement division and Elon University goals. Specifically, this position will create, manage and lead all efforts related to data management, gift records/processing, and reporting/analytics to support and ensure a highly successful and efficient advancement operation. The Director will identify and implement updated or new technologies that will propel University Advancement initiatives forward.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the University Advancement CRM, Blackbaud’s RE NXT, and various technologies to support and enhance University Advancement’s divisional goals.
  • Oversee three functional areas: data management, gift processing/records, and reporting/analytics.
  • Develop and lead efforts to ensure the accuracy of constituent records utilizing all available data sources including constituent supplied information (alumni, parents, friends, corporations and foundations), data append services, faculty/staff updates, etc. Additionally, ensure data is properly imported and updated from other university sources (Admissions, Human Resources, the Registrar, etc.).
  • Ensure proper procedures and processes for timely and accurate entry of all gifts received into the Raiser’s Edge NXT; including compliance with fundraising policies, goals and procedures and proper reconciliation with the accounting office.
  • Oversee reporting on University Advancement operations to both internal and external constituents. This includes, but is not limited to, reporting to the Board of Trustees, the US News and World Report data, the Voluntary Support of Education report, and the annual University Advancement Planning Document.
  • Identify and implement new technologies that will propel University Advancement initiatives forward.
  • Lead the successful technological implementation of Elon Day, Elon’s 24-hour giving day.
  • Develop and implement processes to provide accurate and timely information of requests from University Advancement staff, other campus offices, and other campus offices and groups as needed. This could be mailing list information, financial reporting, prospect segmentation, etc.
  • Lead efforts to streamline and modernize reporting and analytics utilizing PowerBI and other Business Intelligence products.
  • Develop and implement Raiser’s Edge NXT training for University Advancement staff and other university staff members who need to access constituent information.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to the Assistant Director of Advancement Services – Gift Records, Assistant Director of Advancement Services – Data Management, Assistant Director of Reporting and Analytics, and their respective teams.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between University Advancement and Information Technology.
  • Serve as a member of the university-wide committees tied to Data Governance and Integrity.
  • Support Elon University events and projects (Move In, Commencement Week, etc.) and University Advancement events and projects (Homecoming & Reunion Weekend, regional events, Family Weekend, mailing/shipping fulfillment, etc.)

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred, with 5 years experience in database management and/or the University Advancement field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information:

  • Blackbaud Certification preferred.
  • Ability to communication well with others, both in person and on the telephone
  • Ability to be flexible and meet deadlines by managing shift priorities and multiple projects
  • Ability to supervise a variety of related positions
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand new technology systems
