POSITION SUMMARY
As an integral and key development team member, the Director of Philanthropy manages a portfolio of 75-125 individual and corporate donors and prospects to support the Science Center's operations, educational programs, and strategic initiatives. Passionate about ensuring Science Center's donors are provided the highest level of customer service, the Director of Philanthropy creates and implements cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans. In addition to reaching specified goals, the ideal candidate works with Development colleagues to achieve the team's overall revenue targets.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and working closely with the Development team, the Director of Philanthropy will:

  • Build and maintain a portfolio of 75-125 individual and corporate donors and prospects, including creating and implementing acquisition and stewardship plans to ensure the highest level of engagement;
  • Schedule and complete 10-15 face-to-face visits every month to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and corporate donors and donor prospects;
  • Meet or exceed all annual revenue goals. Create and maintain a personal plan to achieve personal specified fundraising goals;
  • Work closely with the CDO, Board members, and Center staff to match donors' philanthropic goals with Science Center's funding opportunities;
  • Conduct donor research and create donor profiles for The Hazel A. Hare President & CEO, CDO, and program staff as needed;
  • As a key member of the Development team, support all financial and other goals of the team;
  • Work closely with a cross-departmental team of Science Center staff to identify needs and opportunities to prepare and present customized written materials, proposals, stewardship reports, and correspondence;
  • Monitor giving trends and devise strategies to build strong relationships successfully; and
  • Support The Hazel A. Hare President & CEO and CDO in related duties that contribute to the successful development operations management.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in development, sales, or related fundraising environment, or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience; familiarity with philanthropic community and knowledge of cultural environment desirable;
  • Proven track record of fundraising, sound strategic planning, and ability to meet revenue targets;
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, problem-solving, and project management skills;
  • Flexibility to work scheduled nights, evenings, and weekends. Occasional travel is a possibility;
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Familiarity with Google suite, Microsoft Word and Excel, and Tessitura software programs (preferred but not required); and
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, including Arizona Science Center leadership, Board of Trustees, individual and corporate partners, and volunteers.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) preferred. A minimum of five years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CRM/Donor database knowledge and experience are preferred.
