Dean of Faculty, Lower School

Options

Jackson Hole Classical Academy seeks a Lower School Dean of Faculty who has experience as a classroom teacher and as a trainer and mentor of other teachers. We seek an experienced teacher with knowledge of and passion for classical pedagogy. Familiarity with Charlotte Mason’s approach to habit formation is preferred. Knowledge of Spalding Phonics and Singapore Math –– and the ability to train others in these disciplines –– is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain congruency between the school’s board-approved mission statement and all academic activities.
  • Act as the academic leader of the Lower School, responsible for its day-to-day operation.
  • Support Lower School faculty by communicating concerns to Leadership Team.
  • Assist Dean of Students with teacher-student issues.
  • Be aware of the educational, physical, social, and psychological needs of the members of our school community and to develop plans for meeting these needs.
  • Strive for unity, harmony, and cooperation through tact, helpfulness, respect, and a recognition of individual differences and the special abilities and strengths of each teacher.
  • Formally observe, supervise, and evaluate the faculty in their development and implementation of curriculum; their quality of classroom instruction; and their adherence to school wide policies and expectations.
  • Perform regular informal observations in classrooms.
  • Make recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring, retention, and faculty assignments.
  • Serve as a consultant to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures.
  • Oversee parent education sessions throughout the year.
  • Lead professional development sessions that focus on pedagogy, the art of teaching, servant leadership, and the Christian classical tradition.
  • Help create and edit the Faculty Handbook for improvements on a yearly basis.
  • Enforce expectations on a daily basis, such as dress code, punctuality, teacher conduct, and professionalism.

The curriculum of JH Classical academy is in the classical liberal arts tradition.
