Job Summary

The Office of Advancement at Oberlin College seeks applications for the position of Director of Parent & Family Giving. This is a full-time, continuing 12-month Administrative and Professional Staff position reporting to the Vice President for Advancement.

Responsibilities

The Director of Parent & Family Giving is responsible for the overall management of the Parent & Family Giving program and also serves as a donor relationship manager who plans and implements strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and closure of outright and deferred gifts from parent leadership gift prospects to Oberlin College & Conservatory.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage a personal, high-capacity portfolio of parent leadership gift prospects capable of gifts of $50,000 and conduct personal visits for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship purposes. Commit to local, national and potential international travel for personal visits with prospects.
  • Oversee and ensure the continued growth of the Parent and Family Giving program by increasing dollars raised from the parent/family constituency as well as the number of parent/family donors.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for key aspects of the program – The Parents Fund, the Parents Executive Committee (PEC) and the parent and family leadership gifts program.
  • Oversee the development and management of the parent pipeline through (1) the acquisition and evaluation of existing and new parent data and (2) the development and oversight of PFG staff portfolios and (3) the creation of strategies to further develop parent prospects at all giving levels.
  • Manage the activities of the PEC, including (1) member recruitment and (2) coordination and planning of fall and spring meetings and (3) volunteer engagement through the fundraising, engagement and career advisory subcommittees and (4) the solicitation of leadership gifts from committee members.
  • Responsible for the oversight of off-campus parent events to develop opportunities for on-campus engagement and cultivation events/activities – Parents Weekend, Orientation, Commencement Weekend.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key individuals and functions across campus to ensure strong partnerships and communications.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5 years progressive experience in program development and management.
  • Proven track record as a leadership gift fundraiser.
  • Self-motivation/personal initiative and a drive to succeed. Must be results-oriented, detail and deadline focused, creative, resourceful and flexible with attention to quality, ethics and excellence in all professional pursuits.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and superior interpersonal skills with demonstrated skill in working well with individuals and in a team setting. Ability to adapt/relate to a wide variety of personalities and ability to listen carefully, learn quickly, and work effectively.
  • Self-starting, strategic thinker who has a desire to succeed.
    Ability and willingness to travel and work nights and weekends as needed.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working in an advancement and/or higher education setting, including direct interaction with key parent and alumni constituencies.
