Job Summary

The Office of Advancement at Oberlin College seeks applications for the position of Associate Director of Annual Giving. This is a full-time, continuing, 12-month, Administrative and Professional Staff position reporting to the Director of Annual Giving and functioning as a member of the Annual Giving team.

Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Annual Giving will plan and execute a sophisticated direct response appeal program (direct mail, email, online) including program administration, management of vendor relationships and their delivered tools, collaboration with campus partners, production and analysis of program outcome reports, and budget management.

Essential Job Functions

In conjunction with the Director of Annual Giving and annual giving team members, construct and execute a College-wide annual plan for direct mail, telephone, text, crowdfunding, and online solicitation programs within the context of the overall annual giving goal. Provide support and assistance to the director for planning and execution of large annual giving campaigns such as All in for Oberlin.

  • Act as project manager for annual giving print and email projects including, but not limited to, securing quotes from vendors, working with administrative staff to submit necessary work orders, determining design needs, managing timelines, overseeing quality control and other project-based needs as required for a cohesive yearly marketing campaign.
  • Build crowdfunding projects, including copywriting and collaboration with video development staff for campus crowdfunding efforts.
  • Write copy for emails, letters, print ads and other communications as needed.
  • Monitor weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual activity to achieve revenue goals.
  • Develop a recurring giving program and appropriate marketing materials to gain donors.
  • Review marketing strategy as it pertains to retention, renewal, and acquisition in conjunction with the Director of Annual Giving. Review and analyze data and benchmark program progress. Provide regular feedback and prepare reports regarding the success of campaign activities and recommend future direction.
  • Act as a relationship manager for a portfolio of mid-level donors including soliciting, closing, and stewarding mid-level gifts.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, special events on campus and throughout the country as needed.
  • Assist with major alumni engagement and annual giving events including Reunions, Homecoming, Commencement, etc.
  • Undertake special projects as directed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years professional experience in advancement or a comparable field such as marketing or sales roles.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects in a team-oriented environment and with others within Advancement and across campus, while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently within a flexible schedule.
  • Must be positive with a strong task, detail and deadline orientation.
    Knowledge of or ability to learn Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge and online event and broadcast email tools is essential.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to write and edit reports, business correspondence, proposals and other cultivation and solicitation materials; ability to prepare clear and compelling materials for fundraising events, initiatives and programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor files and other information; impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues.
  • Ability to run, analyze and summarize computer-generated reports; analyze data effectively to isolate specific segments; recognize areas of weakness and recommend strategies that achieve stated objectives.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications as well as familiarity with other data management and digital communications tools; willingness to learn new programs and applications in a prompt and efficient manner.
  • Ability to travel and work weekends and evenings as needed (less than 15% of the time).

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or equivalent development database and the use of databases to generate reports is preferred.
