Microsoft Azure

My organization is scheduled to be “relocated” to Azure the first week of August.

What can I expect and what issues, if any, have you experienced after the migration to Azure? I'm needing to prepare and anticipate as much as possible.

No issues and no work on my part. As long as everyone at your organization are already RENXT users and access the web view you won't have any problems. It all works really well for my organization.

I would say to expect a better experience. Also, in Azure, you have the ability to kill your session if it hangs or freezes. It's helpful from time to time.

I personally found it slower when exporting files. All of my clients are on Azure now, but before they were migrated there was a very distinct difference in the amount of time RE took to connect to a network location when exporting data from queries, exports, reports, etc. You can try to alleviate that by updating the File Locations in your user options so default to specific pathnames.

Other than that, nothing significant at all, and no “work”. I agree with Dariel that it is nice to be able to kill your session if necessary.

  • Agreed with the below. The ability to terminate your session is a really useful tool that we've utilized quite a few times. I've noticed a slight dip in exporting times, but the overall impact has been positive for my team, I'd say. Having a quicker sign-in path and an easier-to-understand FTP folder has been great, as well. As others have said, no real work involved. Just make sure you have backups of all your data, as always.

  • Following up here, Steve. I was trying to think back on when my org relocated. I think this KB covers what to anticipate and the prep steps to check off:

Like others, trying to think back. One thing I do remember. We were scheduled for a Friday afternoon conversion. They had problems. Software ended up being down all weekend and Monday. This was an issue for us as we were in the midst of processing registrations for several large events and folks could not register. And of course communication with BB over the weekend was pretty much non-existent to get updates.
