View message online link

Options

Hi, quick question about adding view online link to newsletters. I have four newsletters....three are going to different websites. LD New and Parent News both are for LD.org....Early Learning and Literacy Newsletter is for the GetReadytoRead.org website, and the RTI Update is for the RTINetwork.org website.

When I added the view online link to a test draft of the RTI Update newsletter (already sent out on June 23...I just made it into a draft so that I could test something). It turns out that the RTI Newsletter link ened up posting the newsletter to the LD.org page wrapper. There's also a page wrapper for RTI Network.org....is there a way I can fix this, so that the RTI Update link goes to the RTI Action Network wrapper?

Hopefully it's still okay for me to send questions like this to you. Is there a follow up meeting for us to discuss metrics from our newsletters? I won't be sending mine out for a while, but I thought there was still another meeting left to go. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for my question as well as if there's another class coming.

Thanks!

Michaelyn

  • Hi there,

Glad you're on a roll! One solution that some of my clients have used is to remove the wrapper for the online versions of messages completely...kinda like a printer-friendly version. If you're interested in that, please let me know. It is something that our production team can do and I'll submit a case for you.

Also, we do indeed have one last eNew Module call on July 1. I'll send a reminder next week.

    All the best,

Here's one example of a Convio client who strips out their pagewrapper when constituents see messages in the Convio message viewer:

    http://www.nrcprograms.org/site/MessageViewer?em_id=25783.0&dlv_id=0

To get a sense of what it might look like on your site, try viewing an email message online via the message viewer link, then add &printer_friendly=1 to the end of the URL and refresh the page (typically, just change the URL and press enter). The message should reload with the pagewrapper stripped out.

Thanks, but now I think that by removing that it's removed the wrapper for all my pagebuilder pages. When I was showing someone in the office the "Find Elected Officials" option, it brought the page up without any wrapper. Is there a way to only remove the wrapper from the newsletters? If not, is there a way to have different newsletters use different wrappers? i.e. RTI Action Update is part of our RTINetwork.org website, and the wrapper is totally different for that page.

If it can't be separated into two, and if it means that the wrapper needs to be removed from all our pagebuilder pages, then maybe we should just revert to the the old wrapper...and I'll continue posting archives for the RTI Update in the same way. Thanks so much!

    Hi there,

I'm afraid I'm not able to replicate the missing wrapper on Pagebuilder pages. There may be a little confusion in wording here. The conditional should not remove the wrapper from any pagebuilder pages. It is set to disappear when in the MessageViewer application. If this is not working as I see it, can you possibly post a screenshot of what you're seeing so I can better troubleshoot?

ok- then maybe I'm getting confused as well. Our advocacy page:

    http://ncld.convio.net/site/PageServer?pagename=electedOfficials

when I clicked on it yesterday, it's missing the page wrapper, so i thought it might be related. if not, I guess I should open a support ticket?

I was going over some tests...and now they're attaching the RTI pagewrapper:

http://ncld.convio.net/site/MessageViewer?em_id=7361.0&dlv_id=0. Not quite sure what the deal is...now it's directing both the LD News and RTI Update to the RTI wrapper? It was fine before. If this is not related to the Find Elected Officials page, then can we just leave it so that there's no wrapper being used?

Sorry, I'm very confused by this. thanks.

    Hi there,

Quick question...Is there a way to track these online versions of the newsletters? The way we were tracking them before (when I was creating HTML pages and FTPing them to our site) was to add google code to track. Please let me know if there's a way to track metrics of these new pages. thanks so much!

    Hi there,

You can run the Clickthrough Summary Report to get the number of times the message viewer was clicked for a particular message. This would only track those who read the message online by clicking through the original email. I don't believe it would include those who might access the message viewer link via Facebook Share or other places where you post it. Alternatively, you can embed Google Analytics into your pagewrapper so that it is automatically added to each page of your site, including your Message Viewer page.

    Thanks much!
