Excluding DataSync People from Welcome Series Query

Options

We use Common Ground w/COM. I don't want to send our welcome series to people who get added through CG, since they didn't opt in. How can I exclude them from my query? I thought maybe I could use a source-code, but right now no source code is being generated when people are created via data-sync. Can I add a source code as part of synch? And/or is there a better way to do this?

Thanks for any help.

  • Origin Type should be "Data-Sync" so you can query based on that. I don't have CG but I assume that would work.

    Rosie,

There are a few different ways to exclude someone from your welcome series. One way, and the most-often preferred, is to have your various (or one) registration form add everyone who completes the form to a specific group. Then you can add the criteria in the query that says "member of XXXXXX group" or "member of XXXX group" and so on. This will narrow the target group to only those who register on your website and not uploaded.

You can also use this method to suppress donors or any other group that you don't want to receive your welcome series.

I would recommend though that you create some sort of pathway for your uploaded constituents that can go out quickly after you have received their email address offline. This message should include something that states why they are now receiving your email, where you got their email, and what they can expect by being connected to your online community.

    Hope this helps!

So, you're suggesting, send them an immediate welcome, and then maybe merge them into the regular welcome series? I like that idea.

But this comes back to the core question of how do I ID these people who came in from off-line? Is there a way to populate "source" during synch, or a field that shows it was sync-created that I can use to query on?

  • I found the Origin Application Type option under System in the query tool. (It appears as Bio Data on the Convio Contact Record Page, which threw me off.) So I'm just excluding them for now.
