New Campaign, Same as the Old Campaign (NOT)

Options

? Hi all,

Prior capital campaigns have been setup by others back many years, before and after conversion to RENXT, and the recent 3 or 4 have all been stopped and blended into the next campaign for various reasons. All of those campaigns counted Pledge Balances and Payments to Pledges, as well as Cash payments towards Planned Gifts (bequests, 1 Irrevocable Trust) and their balances.

The last capital campaign was actually ended back in June '21 and I now have been nominated as the one person who can get a new capital campaign setup. I am concentrating on gift entry (batch) and reporting as they seem to me the most important support structures.

I cannot count payments to prior pledges/planned gifts, nor the original pledge/PG balances, because both were counted in the last campaign. Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that setting up new Gift appeal(s) for the new Campaign is possibly the only option open to me. If the correct appeal is put on a gift then I can report based on date range and filter by appeal to leave out any payments towards prior campaign pledges/planned gifts. Am I missing possible problems here?

If my chosen option is correct and best for the situation….

  1. During Batch gift entry, when the “open pledge” popup occurs, is the appeal, or lack of appeal, something which can be seen?
  2. If a pledge is selected for the payment entry is the appeal of the PLEDGE automatically entered on the payment? (I've not worked in a batch since conversion training).
  3. Are there any issues I am not seeing if we use gift appeals.

Filtering by Fund is not an option. Our funds stay the same throughout time, so no renaming.

Filtering by campaign would not work (I think) because appeals would still have to be used as far as I can tell. The campaigns we have are Restricted, Unrestricted, Annual Giving, President's Campaign (new capital campaign). The first three include gifts which will be counted in the President's Campaign. We do not have the option of Campaign giving hierarchy.

That was a lot to read, and type, but if I left any information out to assist you in answering just ask :)

  • Hi Larry, I am not positive I have all of the answers for you. Pledges can only be entered through database view of RENXT.

If the initial pledge is entered with an appeal and batch is set for a pop up to apply to “open pledge” when the constituent's name is entered, the appeal will automatically appeal in the batch.

  • Thank you @Barbara Kunkel ! We use only database view for gift entry.

The appeal from the pledge being automatically pushed to the gift is important for my plan. Thank you for the confirmation! ?
