Convio eCRM Advocacy Legislative Data Update for 2009

Options

Elected official data for 2009 legislators went live on the Convio platform Monday evening 1/5/09. This includes data for newly elected legislators in the 111th Congress that will be sworn in today, as well as data for state legislators and state officials such as state governors, state lt. governors, etc. Federal and state committee data is still very sparse and will be updated as more information becomes known as to the composition of those committees.

Many newly elected legislators do not have complete contact information (web sites, email addresses or webforms) yet. Legislator information will be updated as further data becomes available through our data vendor or our own data analysis.

The U.S. Senate offices for Illinois and Minnesota are currently listed as Vacant within our data. As the outcome of the seating and swearing-in of legislators for those offices becomes finalized, our data will be updated to include those new legislators.

Some state officials, such as state governors, will be officially sworn into office at later dates in January, however, our data now reflects all new state officials for 2009.

Legislators who are still within their term but are expected to leave office will continue to be listed as holding their office until their resignation.

  • Overnight Tuesday the Convio Advocacy data was updated to include further new web sites and email addresses and/or webform URLs for federal Senators and Representatives sworn in to the 111th Congress on Tuesday. Previously, some of the legislators in the U.S. Congress did not have websites and electronic contact information (email addresses or webforms) defined.

We noticed a few webforms this morning that were failing for various legislators, at both the federal and state levels. Those will be updated overnight.

Additionally, we updated contact information (email addresses) for state senators and state representatives in the Colorado legislature.

We will be continuing to update federal and state information this week and next as more information comes in from our data vendor and our own internal data analysis.

  • Overnight Monday the Convio Advocacy data was updated to include

a President record for President Obama and a Vice-President record for Vice-President Biden, who are being sworn in on Tuesday. Additionally, a record was added for incoming First Lady Michelle Obama.

NOTE: As of Tuesday morning, we do not have electronic contact information for President Obama or Vice-President Biden, since their web pages and email addresses have not officially gone live. Once their new web pages go live later today, we will update our electronic contact information. Updated data will go into effect overnight Tuesday.

The Federal Cabinet entries for President Obama are currently limited to Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, since other officials have not yet been officially confirmed. As they are confirmed, new records will be added to the Federal Cabinet folder within the Target List page.

New federal Senator records for Senator Roland Burris (D-IL) and Senator Ed Kaufman (D-DE) have also been added.

Finally, hundreds of other federal and state legislator and federal and state committee records have been updated in various ways, primarily with postal address, phone and fax numbers.

We will be continuing to update federal and state information this week

and next as more information comes in from our data vendor and our own

    internal data analysis.

  • Following up on my January 20 comment, we now have configured our system to submit comments to President Obama through his new webform located at .

It took a few days to work out some issues with the webform submission, so the new Obama webform was not fully operational until mid-day Tuesday, January 27. Prior to that time, most deliveries to President Obama would have failed and shown up as failures in the Advocacy Delivery Failure Report.

If you are a Convio admin with access to Advocacy reports and are seeing failures in your Advocacy reports for President Obama, you can click the "Retry" link for those failures. The deliveries will be re-queued and should go through successfully now.

Finally, we are in the process of finishing up another advocacy data update which will include all the Federal Cabinet officers sworn in to this point. It will also remove the change.gov target from the Advocacy Target List. That target ( ) is now defunct... and visitors who go to that URL are encouraged to submit comments to the Contact page on whitehouse.gov instead. I will update this thread when that new data update is installed to production.

  • As additional followup, late last week we deployed further data updates to the Convio eCRM advocacy data.

These updates primarily resolved around new records for President Obama's Cabinet. Previous to this update, the following Cabinet members and other high-ranking officials were available:

    Rahm Emanuel, Chief of Staff

    Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense

New records were added for several officials sworn in recently. These include:

    Steven Chu, Secretary of Energy

    Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State

Shaun Donovan, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

    Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education

Timothy Geithner, Secretary of the Treasury

    Ron Kirk, U.S. Trade Representative

    Ray LaHood, Secretary of Transportation

Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security

    Peter Orszag, Director, OMB

Lisa Jackson, Administrator of the EPA

Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior

Eric Shinseki, Secretary of Veterans Affairs

    Thomas Vilsack, Secretary of Agriculture

Some federal Cabinet positions remain to be confirmed by the Senate. Until such time as those secretaries-designee have been confirmed, the following acting secretaries will be listed:

    Mark Filip, Acting Attorney General

Charles Johnson, Acting Secretary of Health and Human Services

Howard Radzely, Acting Secretary of Labor

Patrick Ward, Acting Secretary of National Drug Control Policy

For legislators above who vacated seats or offices, we now list their replacements, when available. A few vacated positions remained Vacant due to replacements not being officially sworn into office late last week.

For all the above officials, phone numbers and fax numbers are available. However, at this time, we do not have email addresses or web form URLs yet defined. Convio will continue to work on obtaining and configuring that information as data becomes available.

We also removed the record for change.gov, since the Contact webform for that site is now defunct.

Many other updates to address, phone, fax, email and webform data were made to other legislators, and additional committee representation was added for several states.

Convio will continue to make further data updates and monitor our systems for successful deliveries of action alert messages.

  • Here is another follow-up on our advocacy data updates.

Back on February 6, we updated our advocacy data to bring in some new Federal Cabinet positions and other new legislators, as well as a number of improvements to state-level legislators and committee assignments.

This past Tuesday night, February 24, we updated our advocacy data again to the latest data we have available. Most of the Federal Cabinet is now in place, though there are still a few individuals in Acting positions as we wait for President Obama's official picks for those positions to be confirmed. We will be adding the "Director, National Drug Control Policy" position back in as a Cabinet-level position in the near future. Additionally, many legislator records - mostly at the state level - were updated to reflect more accurate phone, fax, email, web site and web form information.

Convio will continue to make further data updates and monitor our systems for successful deliveries of action alert messages.

Information for phone, fax, email, web site and web form are being updated daily.

New records for legislators and officials are being added roughly weekly, as we get such new data from our data vendor.

How is Convio submitting email to Sec. of the Interior Salazar? Is there a target address or are you passing data through a contact form?

  • Chris Burley:
