How to allow constituents to call Senators outside their district in the Log a Call Advocacy Module

Options

We are running an advocacy campaign where we encourage folks to call Senators that sit on a specific committee, but want to encourage people to participate in the call, even if they do not live in the district of a Member of Congress on the committee.

The problem is, right now the Make-a-Call Page requires users to enter their address, and only displays contact information for Members of Congress in their district.

Is it possible to bypass the Make a Call Page and take users straight to the list of Senators we would like them to contact?

Or is it possible to display results of Senators that live outside someone's home state?

  • In order to do this, you'd need to create the commitee members as custom targets. Then you can use those instead of the standard Convio targets, since the custom targets will not be restricted to specific constituents.

Of course it's important to add the caveat that Convio advises against having people contact members of Congress for whom they are not constituents, thus the built-in control preventing this behavior.

Brilliant, thanks for the reply Noah! Yes, I'd been in touch with Convio support and they do discourage this practice (though I think there are some cases where it would not be inappropriate). Thanks again.
