How best to record Organization contacts so that they can be included in Luminate for e-mailing?

Options
We use RE as our database of reference and LO for our online portal. Right now we use Mailchimp for e-communications but are wanting to move to LO for this function..

I am wondering how others capture Org contacts in RE so that they can be included in e-comms coming out of LO? For targeted e-comms we want to use RE to create queries of records to be included and then synch those queries to LO Groups using the IOM LO Integration. When looking at out major donors there are a number of Orgs that would be included and we would want to pick up the contact names withing those Orgs. I know that we can create RE Individual records for the contacts but I am having a hard time figuring out how I can still use the Org record as the primary constituent for inclusion in e-mail blasts.

  • Hi Robert,

Raisers Edge is also our primary database and all data feeds up to Luminate, except organization/foundation records.  You can't email organization in luminate either. We add the primary organizations contacts as an individual records in RE and linked to the organization.  This way we can include them in our emails when we want.  I will code them in RE as key contact, special events, sponsor and so on.  I then create queries for each type of contact group (make sure you use dynamic not static.  In luminate I create a group called Organization Contacts. Then I upload those queries to Luminate and create different organization group for each contact type.  I put them in the main Organization Contacts group.  Once I have all my contact groups set up, I am able to select the groups for emails. I do this for lots of different groups of constituents that I have specifically coded in RE but not in luminate. Its a great way to really target specific groups that most likely aren't coded that way in Luminate.

Feel free to reach out if you need any help. Hope this helps.

  • Hi Patti,

What is the most polite way for me to jump in on this conversation with excitement to ask you if it would be ok for me to reach out and talk through this with you?!  I've needed to research a solution and I would appreciate trying something that is proven, even if it's a pain, which it may not be because it sounds like you have a pretty straight forward solution. (Realizing there could be a record bandwidth issue). Can I message you independent of this discussion forum?  Also, thanks Robert for asking this question I hope you don't mind me too much swooping in like this.

  • Thanks so much for your suggestions Patti. I will reach out because there are more questions that I have and I think talking about it will be more productive than back and forth email. Also, glad I could get the ball rolling for you Andrea.
