Tribute gifts...but no tribute module - how to indicate in e-receipt?

I've got a bit of a conundrum here. We don't have the tribute module for Raiser's Edge and typically when someone makes a donation in Memory of, we add an attribute and gift note and handle everything manually. However, I have a situation with a donor who wants to make regular one-off gifts for their friends and family birthdays, anniversaries, etc. for the next year. They want to have one receipt per donation (which may be different amounts!) and for us to send an acknowledgement to the honoree to confirm receipt of the gift.


They plan to make these donations throughout the year, possibly in batches but maybe one by one, and want to be able to do it online. I am trying to set up a custom BBNC donation page for them, so that I can add the specific appeal and provide an e-receipt with some language we have agreed to. From what I can tell, I can use gift attributes or a comment box to capture the honoree's name/address for sending the acknowledgement.


There's a KB that says custom attributes can't be used as merge fields in e-receipts. What about comments? Is there a way to get those to show? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? I considered creating a separate form on the donation page or on a landing page after the donation to submit the contact info via email, but I want to streamline this as much as possible, and I think having to choose "submit" twice would be confusing. Also, we really need to have the honoree's name on the e-receipt.
