Gift adjustments and query

Howdy fellow community members,


I have a question that I'm just not super well versed in, so I thought I'd put it out to the community for your input.  I have a set of gifts that will need to be amended/adjusted to different appeals or packages (I haven't determined quite how I'm going to set this up, so everything is kinda up in the air.), but I don't know how adjustments are grouped.  Are they grouped under the adjusted values, or are they listed under the original values?  I'd imagine that they would be queried toward the adjusted values, but I'm not going to assume anything here.  We don't have FE, and the gifts aren't posted, so I could change the original gifts, but I would prefer to keep the original data as I'm almost certain I'll need to find a way to report on both the original gift and the adjustments.


Unfortunately, there won't be a way to group all of the original gifts together.  While all of the original gifts will be adjusted, the way they will be adjusted varies from person to person.  However, I'm almost certain that I may need to query off the original gifts as they come through.

Is your concern how to be able to filter them from your RE so you can report on them? If so, you'd want a way to code them so you can easily filter them. One thought would be to use a gift attribute.


If you want to code them based on how they are changed, maybe use an appeal(s) and then a package for each way you've had to adjust them.

I know I will be able will report on the adjustments.  I'm not sure I will be able to report on the original gift details.  I'll be making changes to the appeals and packages for the adjustments.  The idea of a gift attribute is great, however I do hate to create coding for a single thing.  It would make reporting easier though.  I'll have to figure out how to create it and make it work best.

You can query to see previous Fund and current Fund, but not previous Campaign, Appeal, or Package.  Because of that, I always identify changes to those fields in the Reason and/or Comment of the Adjustment record itself.  If you did need that information to be queryable, they probably would need to be added as Gift Attributes.
