Exporting Memberships on a Constituent Export

Question. 


When memberships are created the hierarchy is 1.Program + 2.Category. Why then on exports do you select the category to narrow down to what memberships you would like to see included in the outputs? This doesn't give you the scope of the program/membership, but rather just a fraction of your current memberships. I'm just trying to make sure we have everything set-up correctly, and could really use some insight into why it's set-up this way, and if there are any suggestions about the set-up in general.

  • The most basic reason I can think of is that programs aren't a required field--in fact, we had RE for years before I set up and started using programs here.


    And programs aren't required, I'm guessing, because say you are a smaller institution with only a few membership categories, there's no real need to have things split up that way.


    So when it comes to exporting, they go with the required fields, not the optional ones.
