Online gifts - who is the donor?

Options
We've had a series of online gifts come in. The credit card holder's info is in BBMS, however, that name is different than the constituent name they entered when they made the gift on our website. Essentially, they are using their credit card but want the gift credited to the name they entered as the constituent. In this case, who is the donor?

When we receive a check, we give the hard credit to the name on the check and soft credit anyone else. Would the same be applied here? Hard credit to the credit card holder? I have to go into BBMS to get their mailing info, so it is an extra step I'd rather not have to do.

Thank you

  • And I thought I was the only one with that problem!  ?  Yes, my take is that the cardholder information reveals the legal donor, so I ascertain who or what (if a corporation) that is and ensure that the hard credit resides there.  Then I soft-credit the stated "donor" name, if that individual even has a constituent record in the first place.  So yes, I'm jumping through the same hoops that you are, I'm afraid.  Good luck!
