Acknowledgement letters

Hello all,


I use the Mail Module to generate acknowledgement letters. I have 3 different types of letters - 1 for our regular donors, 1 for new donors and 1 for lapsed donors. The text varies slightly for each. How do I set it up so that RE will automatically generate the appropriate letter for each constituent? Is there a way to do this without assigning the letter code in batch? If I have to do it in the batch then that means I have to open up almost every record to see when/if their last gift was. Thanks!

  • Nothing is automatic. I set up new adding gift rules in Business Rules. They are dependent on queries that you write. For example, one will alert me to a first-time donor so I can choose the appropriate letter for that. You can really set them up for whatever you need. There is probably a class you can take to walk you through all of this.

    A conditional mail merge will work, but you would also have to assign the letter code.  There is a way to create an IF statement in Word based off a mergefield, but that's complex, and may not work for your definition of lapsed.  Also, you can't add giving information to the constituent window either.
