Split batch into two based on one field?

Hello,


Is it possible to split a batch into two, based on the data in one field? We use an importer to create batches from Paypal donations, and the source of the donation is put into the "Credit Card Processor attribute description0" field. Each gift will have one of two possible values in that field. I'd like to split the batch into two - one that contains all of the gifts with one value and another that contains all of the gifts with the other value.


Is that possible? If so, how?

Hi John Merlino‍ - The easiest option would be to make this distinction before you import the gifts by dividing the import file into two, depending your classification, and import each file of gifts into two different gift batches.  If you have already imported the gifts as one file, I would recommend re-importing the gifts that qualify for the other option into a new batch and deleting them out of the original batch.

Thanks for your reply. The first option you mention might be possible, but it would require access to the source drive (which I don't yet have) plus some filename tweaking because the importer assumes the source filename will be the same for any one given day. Splitting the source into two would be a multi-step process, but possibly not too painful. The other option (importing twice) would be easy, but very time-consuming, as I typically spend at least an hour a day on this task, and definitely can't afford to double that. :-(

John Merlino‍ - Sorry! I did not factor in how much time imports usually take into my initial response.  Don't know how much recourse you have once the gifts are in RE; the only way I can think of creating a batch from a batch is through "gift exceptions" - KB Article #38315 - although I doubt this would save you any time.
