Healthcare organizations - importing patient data into Raiser’s Edge

Options
Hello,

My organization uses a separate database for our patient records and billing. I am wondering how other healthcare organizations handle this patient data - do you import patient records into Raiser’s Edge? How often? What is your process for determining who should be added to Raiser’s Edge or not? How do you navigate getting two separate databases designed to store different information (donor data vs medical data) to speak to one another?

Thank you!

We intentionally don't put patient data into our donor database.  While there will inevitably be some overlap, we don't add any of that data in for privacy purposes.  We may have some information on some people to determine if they are good prospects, but we never tie any donor information to patient data.  We also don't have a direct interface between then two systems either.
  • RE is not HIPAA compliant - placing PHI in RE would place any organization at a greater level of risk.
  • Thank you for your replies. It sounds like I should have phrased my question differently - we aren't looking to put any health data/medical information into Raiser's Edge, just demographic info (address/phone/email).

I was more curious if healthcare organizations are creating Raiser's Edge records for anyone who is in their patient database, or if you only bring in certain patients into your donor database. How do you determine who comes into your donor database?

We don't create records unless there's a reason to.  In order for us to create a record, we would either have to receive a gift or have identified them as a prospect.  I don't see much value in entering them without either of that information, much less having to create a constituency for them.

Now, how to determine if a patient is a good prospect is a completely different question.
