Font/Character change in Action Notes Web view to Database view

Options
I haven't seen this posted about on the Community or Knowledgebase. We are having problems with font/character changes from Action Notes.

We will have a Gift Officer entering the following in Webview:

"Met with Bob Smith '75 for lunch in Manhattan. Purpose of visit was stewardship for Bob's gifts."

When opened in Database view we see:

"Met with Bob Smith ?75 for lunch in Manhattan. Purpose of visit was stewardship for Bob?s gifts."

Anyone have any suggestions for this or is this a support question?

Thanks!

  • It's a common problem when there are differences in operating systems and font sets, particularly without Unicode font support.  Someone possibly entered the data using a Macintosh or other system that database view (still working with Windows 95 technology) can't cope with.

Thank you, John. I guessed that was likely the case. I was wondering what (if anything) do other organizations do about it? Just leave it as is, edit it, or something else? We have some reports and profiles that pull this information out so we are trying to figure out if we just need to work around it.

If it's critical that the information be stored/printed accurately then I'd suggest editing it in database view. Otherwise I'd just leave it as is and live with this common, minor inconvenience. Most people today are accustomed to seeing such occasional anomalies.

  • Try pasting the text into Notepad or similar, then copying from there into NXT.
  • I often find that RE doesn't display the backtick and m-dash characters properly, where people have used them instead of the similar-looking apostrophe and n-dash. I usually try to 'find and replace' them prior to importing data, but I don't check for ones that have been entered by hand.
