Anyone else receiving "startup error" message?

Options
Hi all, one of our users has been unable to log into RE today as she gets the error message:
Startup Error: Invalid procedure call or argument

Main Startup Step: CBBStartSeq.Startup

Start Sequence Step: InstallRemoveProducts

I can't find this error listed in the Knowledgebase - has anyone else encountered it? Initially I thought it was just affecting one laptop but I've restarted my own PC this afternoon and it installed an update, and now I'm having the same problem... ?

We're on 7.96 patch 11, self-hosted.

  • Yes! Thanks, this looks like it's the same issue (despite a slightly different error message, which must be why it didn't turn up in my search results)

Slightly annoyed that this wasn't communicated to customers - I'm subscribed to pretty much every Raiser's Edge email going, and I don't recall seeing any warnings about this.
  • Alan French‍. just FYI we got an email notification on August 14:

    Dear Customer,
On Tuesday, August 13, Microsoft released an update for Windows including but not limited to KB4512506, KB890830, KB4474419, KB4512501, KB4512486. Following this release, we are aware of an issue impacting Raiser’s Edge®, Financial Edge®, and Education Edge™ on-premise and self-hosted customers that have installed this Microsoft update. Customers may experience the inability to log in to one or all of these solutions.
We are working with Microsoft to quickly address the issue and get impacted customers back to the state in which they’ll be able to apply security updates promptly. We understand that the update included security patching, which may provide important protection for your environment. We will provide an update when we have more information.
To avoid difficulties logging in to the Blackbaud Solutions listed above, we recommend that customers do not install the August 13 Windows Update on their environments until we have identified and addressed the current issue. For those customers that have updated to this version, we are aware of users having success when uninstalling the update, therefore we recommend taking this action. For instructions on how to uninstall the Windows update, please refer to the KB article here. Please note, however, that not installing or uninstalling the release means customers will not have the protections of the security patching.
If you have additional questions, please contact Customer Support. Thank you for your patience and partnership.
    Blackbaud
  • Thanks John - less annoyed now and more puzzled as to why I didn't get that message!
