Shared addresses - why don't some records ask if we would like to update for all shared addresses?

When I update a constituents address in RE, I typically get a pop-up message asking if I would like to change the address on all records that share the address. 


However, my co-worker recently noticed that she sometimes does not get that warning.  Why is that?  Is there some way to link the accounts?

The most likely reason is that the address is not reciprocated on other records that share the address. For example, if I manually update my address in my record and then I manually add that address to my spouses record, at quick inspection it may appear that the address is reciprocated on both records and a change on one record will propagate to the other record, but it won't. If I were to manually update the address on my record, I will not be prompted to update my spouses address. The only way I know of to fix that is to delete the address from both records and re-add it which, in the case of spousal record, should reciprocate the address.

If you look on the address tab of the constituent record (in database view) you can show the column "shared".  To link an address, go the the record of the UNLINKED address.

Go to the Address tab. Click on the address you want to "replace" with a shared address. From the menu bar click "address" then select "Copy/Share Address from Constituent"



Then search for the constituent who has the address you want to share, when you do that their addresses appear, select the address you want and make sure that "share this address" is checked

Also, I forgot to mention, if an address is shared, you can tell right away in database view if the address has a check in the "more" button it will look like this:
