Shared addresses - why don't some records ask if we would like to update for all shared addresses?

Options
When I update a constituents address in RE, I typically get a pop-up message asking if I would like to change the address on all records that share the address.

However, my co-worker recently noticed that she sometimes does not get that warning.  Why is that?  Is there some way to link the accounts?

  • The most likely reason is that the address is not reciprocated on other records that share the address. For example, if I manually update my address in my record and then I manually add that address to my spouses record, at quick inspection it may appear that the address is reciprocated on both records and a change on one record will propagate to the other record, but it won't. If I were to manually update the address on my record, I will not be prompted to update my spouses address. The only way I know of to fix that is to delete the address from both records and re-add it which, in the case of spousal record, should reciprocate the address.

Also, I forgot to mention, if an address is shared, you can tell right away in database view if the address has a check in the "more" button it will look like this:398ed48513fa3aceb0c98ab2375a8305-huge-mo

an unshared address will look like this:
    9ab9095d4ddb4e3d7a65c840f475d23e-huge-mo

  • Hi Rachel,

We are always trying to find easier ways for people to know what answers worked for our community members.  If you wouldn't mind clicking the "Mark as Best Answer" under the answer that worked for you, then it will show up as the best answer for others.

    In harmony,
