Database Management

Options
Good day everyone!

I am reaching out to the forum regarding the lovely topic of Database Management for Raiser's Edge.

So far, we are looking into reorganizing our current staff security groups to limit the entering of data.

Are there any tools you use or best practices you can share regarding database clean up like duplicate records, incorrect data entered of names, address?

We are using ImportOmatic to import our external data files.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks,

Lesa Charran,

senior Coordinator, Gift and Database Administration

If you search "data audit" on here you will get oodles of great clean up links. For me, I have a query category called Clean Up, with a series of queries that I just run regularly. And every time I see someone has a great clean up idea, I just throw the query in there.

I think the clean up needs will depend on the trends for your organization - at my last workplace (a zoo) we had a lot of young and temp staff doing entry at the gates, so ended up with consistent address problems, so that was a focus for us.  So, I tend to look for the problems I know most likely to be there.

    Some of my regulars are:

    - Actions marked as completed but the status doesn't match our processes

    - email address missing  ‍

    - Blank fields

    - Missing Prefix

    - address line contains x (because that line is mandatory, some staff in past would just put x to speed through it.)

    Cheers
