Email Vs. Hard Copy Thank you

Options
We currently send an acknowledgement letter to every donor that is a mailed, hard copy.  We are looking into the trend of schools doing electronic thank you's (outside of normal online giving...this would be daily mail, physical checks, etc.).  Is anyone sending emails vs. Hardcopy.  If so, is there a cut off on the dollar amount?

Just trying to get a feel for trends.

  • Within the past year we've altered our acknowledgement policy so that if someone gives us a check or credit card that we process in-house then they get a hard copy acknowledgement.  If they donate online they get an electronic acknowledgement.  Our thinking is that we contact the donor in the manner they seem to prefer for making a donation.
