Recurring Gifts

So we have 8 people who want to do recurring gifts with us each month. We've used a 3rd party credit card processing site to handle this for years. Our CFO would like to run these through BBMS now to save $$ on the processing fees.


Does anyone out there use BBMS to process recurring gifts? We've found the process a bit cumbersome so I was just curious if it was me. It's been 2 months now and we're still learning about this process. I've been disappointed with the support materials and Online Chat assistance to get this set up.

I wrote a document that seems to make sense to people about how they're processed. I agree that the Blackbaud training and support documents about this subject aren't very good. Send me an email at kstuhlfeier@spa.edu if you'd like me to send you a copy. I think that the system works well in RE once you know how it works.

I find the recurring gifts process through RE and BBMS is cumbersome at best. It is not automatic and you have to charge manually.

Automatic recurring gifts will be coming up in NXT, by the end of 2019 I believe.  I think that means once it's set up it will run whenever there's a date that someone has set their recurring gift to be processed. Just relating what I heard in the last NXT roadmap webinar.

That would be great Matthew! Thanks for sharing. This whole process has not been easy...from the online instructions to the online chats that I've had with RE support. It really should be easier than this.

We use Merchant Services to process through the batch once it is created.  One problem I have is not all the recurring gifts will pull when I try to automatically put them in the batch so I also have to keep an excel document of the names and amounts to make sure they are all added in the batch before I run the payment process.  Hoping NXT is going to be much better!

I ran it the first time this morning and everything went smoothly...except for our 1 poor person who keeps having his card hacked! Having decent instructions makes all the difference.

Karen Stuhlfeier‍, I'll be emailing you. We've used BBMS in the past and I found it clunky at best, and there's discussion of going back to it, so I'd like to see your instructions just in case we transition back to BBMS. ?

I have some how-to docs we created to help train folks, so it does not just fall on my shoulders. We started using recurring payments via BBMS 2.5 years ago and now we have over 80 gifts a month. IN the beginning, it is a bit tedious, since it only seems like a handful.
