Help with Volunteer Fundraising Groups

Our organization is going to be setting up volunteer fundraising groups or auxiliaries.  This is new for us and I would love your input.
  • When an individual joins one of these groups, there is a nominal membership "fee." Would you agree that the "membership fee" lives as a contribution on the organization record and not on the individual's?
  • As the group brings in contributions - through personal solicitation for the Annual Appeal, or in support of an event -- I am thinking the gift lives on the group record, whether that contribution is written on an org check or an individual's.
  • Do I want to soft credit individual(s) if they are known?
  • We have not thought through all the reporting needs here. Wondering if we will want to be able to recognize top individual volunteer fundraisers within a group.
  • In addition to establishing a relationship record to the volunteer group, would you also use a constituent attribute or constituent code?
