YTD Report Multiple Years

Is there a way to use NXT Dashboards (or another feature of NXT) to create a Year to Date donatoins report on selected groupings of funds?  I do this every two weeks in the database view, for three years in comparison.

There are a few options in NXT Dashboards that might meet your needs depending on your exact requirements.


1.) Probably one you've already seen is the default Overview dashboard under Reporting. The first chart at the top is a Year over Year performance. You can filter this through the Fund description filter at the top of the page and should see the current YTD donations in comparison with the prior two years (three years in total) at that point in time.


2.) Another option might be to leverage the default insight "Giving by fundraising effort". By default, this insight breaks down by Appeal, however, you can choose to Edit properties on the insight in Report Builder and overwrite the default breakdown to change it to a Fund breakdown. You can also choose to remove any of the default measures that you are not interested in. So this would give you the funds with their totals. Unfortunately, you would need to create a This Year, Last Year and Two Years ago dashboard each with its own report so you could get the data for each year you are interested in, but then you could quickly flip between the tabs to see the data you want. If you took this approach, you could also just use a headline metric if you are just looking for a grand total for the funds as opposed to a breakdown by fund.


3.) If you are looking for a single report with columns for each year, there is currently not a default insight that shows this view. It is possible to build this if you have the optional Insight Designer under Analysis > Report Builder > Insights tab > + icon. You can add a measure multiple times and filter each specific measure to a time period in the measure itself. So you can add Gift received amount filtered to the current year, filtered to last year, and filtered to 2 years ago to have three amount columns​ like the below example.



If you do not have Insight designer and would like to see a default insight similar to the above shipped by Blackbaud, or none of the above options meet your specific need, please add it to the Idea Bank with as much detail as you can so we can consider releasing that as a default insight in the future.
