Geographic distribution of members

Options
Hey! Has anyone created a report that shows their geographic distribution across the United States? I can't figure out how to build the report.

Thanks!

  • There is a Statistical Report in the Demographic and Statistical Reports section that my provide what you need.
  • Thanks, Mary. I have Report Builder under Analysis but there are no out-of-the-box reports. I'm wondering if my rights are not set correctly, though I am an admin. The Insights tab is mostly insights around giving and I don't see basic reports on the database.
  • Sorry - I only read the body of the email and now see from the heading that the request was for a report in NXT.

    Amanda,

If you haven't already solved this, just wanted to share a few options around geographical data in NXT reporting. We have the following primary address information for constituents available in reporting:
    • Constituent country
    • Constituent address lines
    • Constituent state or province
    • Constituent city
    • Constituent ZIP Code, postcode or postal code
If your organization has access to Insight Designer, you can create your own custom insight, where you use any of the above as an attribute and the measure "Constituents" assuming you want to get a count of constituents by geographic area. You can then add that to one of your dashboards.

If you do not have Insight Designer, you can still get what you need by leveraging one of the default insights.
    1. Add the default insight named "Constituents" (or any of the insights that break down constituent count) to a dashboard.
    2. On that insight, choose to Edit Properties.
    3. Mark the option to "Overwrite default attributes" and click on the box under "View by"
    4. From this next screen, you can choose any constituent related attribute to make the "View by" of your report, such as Constituent state. Save your changes and you should now see this insight breaking down constituent count by state.
You can do the same with Giving insights if you wanted to see giving totals by State or something similar.

    Hope this helps!
