Recording gifts where the Appeal is at odds with Soft Credit gift info

We sent out within our Annual Appeal a specific Appeal  to a specific group of people and created a Package for them within the Appeal.


One donor donated through United Way. We soft credit UW gifts back to the donor, and the UW has its own gift field designations.


In the soft credit from the United Way gift we find we cannot change the Appeal designation and in turn include our Package info without disrupting the other soft credit designees. We are thinking of splitting the original UW gift so that one amount will reflect our special donor amount and creating soft credit gift entry fields that will match what we need for our special appeal gift recording.


Has anyone else had this issue? If so what was your solution? Anyone have any ideas on a better solution. We want to make sure we have all our Package donors captured for dashboard, acknowledgement, and reporting purposes.

I would go ahead and create a separate Gift for that donor. Split Gifts are such a huge pain so I think this is your best bet.

Could you create a pledge on the donor record and use the UW payment to satisfy the pledge?  


Nevermind, I just tried that, and the gift record on the payment side would still reflect the standard UW fields.  But if you created a gift for the remainder after the pledge, you could manually change the fields of the payment record before posting.
