Luminate Online User Name

Options
I am running into gift processing issue due to Luminate Online business rule to use an individual email address as their Luminate User Name.  So for example a daughter completes and submits a donation for her mother, the mother does not have an email address so the daughter list her email as the email address for the mother.  Two months later the daughter submits a donation online, Luminate automatically apply the new donation to the mother's record because because the email address is recognized as the user name.  So instead of bringing the daughter's information over in the plugin so that I can create a new Raiser's edge record, the gift comes over in the plugin as a gift from the mother. This means gift are been applied to the wrong donor.  Any thoughts, ideas how to best handle this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • Boy I hate this about Luminate. I asked if it was possible to change this, but no deal. Our issue is people changing their actual email address, then the username and email no longer match. Lots of confusion for participants.

In your case the mother and daughter have the same home address? Do they have the same name too? I think that assigning a new donation to an existing constituent takes more than email address into consideration. I think it uses the same logic that duplicate resolution does, so it doesn't seem like this should always happen just based on email. Sound right?

  • Brian, I had this happen recently on 4 separate occasions.  In all four cases the first and last name were different and in only one case the physical address was the same.  This is a huge problem, most of our donations are tribute gifts, so this means when I notify the tributee's family the donor information will be incorrect.  I plan to review donor's name and credit card holder's name while working in the gift batch, if both names do not match I will have to reach out to the credit card holder to confirm donor's name.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
  • Were they all related or from the same location?

This is starting to sound like something that happens to us, but is not caused by the email address/username.

If the 'Remember Me' cookie is stored on a shared computer, the next person to use it will still be logged in as the previous user. If a donation is made, that donation is attached to that previous user's record, even if they change all the info on the form. Any different information provided overwrites that of the previous user. "The form already had Dawn's name and address, so I just replaced it with mine."

Take a look at the donation in the interactions tab of the user. It should show where the info provided changes what was previously on the record.

  • In
one case yes they were related, in the other 3 no.

  • For us these sometimes happen from work
computers, or when one person enters gifts for a few
friends/coworkers whose info they gathered. Check the interactions
for evidence of that overwriting. Use the Show All button by the
Interaction Types filter. I think the actual interaction type is
‘Contact Record Change’ right after the donation interaction.

  • Thank
Brian, I will give your suggestion a try.
