Membership Query (NO MEMBERSHIP MODULE)

Options
Hello Everyone,

Tried to determine if I could find the answer to my problem on a previous thread but I could not...

My org has an Annual Fund member group (Governing Members), which is based upon a certain giving amount that we need to track from year to year.  I am attempting to do so solely by giving amount but keep running into 2 main problems I seem unable to solve on my own.

First, some of the GMs were Trustees at our org but are no longer.  They have a Trustee Const. Code associated with them with a start and end date.  But I do not know how to pull those who fall in this category without A) pulling all the other Trustees; or B) pulling those with Trustee start and end dates but are not GMs.  I was considering merging 2 queries: 1) one based off the giving amount; and 2) excluding active Trustees.  But I think this would just give me problem B) - does anyone have experience with this?

Second, some of the GMs' gifts live in a different profile, such as their dead spouse or their foundation or corporation, which means they are the soft credit recipient.  I feel like I must be doing something obviously stupid but I simply cannot write a query that pulls them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

  • I believe your merge would work fine, if I am understanding your requirements.

This article might answer your soft credit question for either query or reports.

  • Thank you, Larry.  Your answers to my initial questions helped!

I have one last obstacle to overcome that I simply cannot figure out myself....

I have my Primary Query as the Giving Amount indicator with the following:
    6b84a693b8919049d9554bbb0ff08e12-huge-ca

Then I have my Secondary Query as the Active Trustee list with the following:
    e1bfe25146785b898ce38bdb29d293c5-huge-ca

I then subtract the Secondary Query from the Primary Query and get a near perfect list EXCEPT 5 Trustee spouses, who are soft credit recipients for their Trustee gifts.  I cannot exclude the Soft Credit Recipient option though because it is essential for pulling several people in the Primary Query.  In other words, the Gift Processing Options for the Query Options are set to Credit Soft Credits to both Donor and Recipient.

Any remaining advice? These last 5 are just killing me....
  • Sorry, Ellen,  I am just now seeing your response.  If you haven't already gotten this worked out...

I believe the easiest route would be to create a 3rd query consisting of ID's to be excluded.  You can subtract the 3rd query from the primary, then subtract the second query from the primary.

There may be another way to manipulate RE Query, but since you need some soft-credit spouses, but not others, you would have to be able to differentiate the two groups.  I think a 3rd query is the easiest method.
