Has anyone created gated content in LO?

Options
We're exploring putting content behind an email capture and I'm wondering if anyone has done this in LO. I'm especially trying to figure out how to actually keep the content behind the gate so folks can't get to it by just entering the URL.

  • This is done using the Security Category on the content in LO (see  Edit Attributes on PageBuilder pages.)

I'd first create a new SC for your content. This is under Setup. You may need access from support or your admin to see this menu.

On the Category Permissions tab of your new SC, edit the Content Viewing permission. Add an override, and give the groups Site Visitors and Any Registered User the "Cannot View Content" permission.

Now any content marked with your SC cannot be viewed by normal site visitors, registered or not.

Now give your desired users access. You do that by creating a group, and giving is the Security Mode of User Security Group. You can then edit the Group Permissions, choose Content Viewing, and add an override to allow viewing for your Security Category. Now anyone in that group can see your content (if logged in.)

  • You could alternatively allow Any Registered User to retain the 'View Content' permission. Then you don't have to fool around with a group, and anyone that is logged in will have access.

  • Note, this works for Admin content too.

I have my administrators sorted in groups by their department, and a bunch of Admin Dashboard pages each with their own Security Category. With the proper viewing permissions each group can only see their version of the dashboard, so each department gets just the charts relevant to their tasks.
  • Thanks, Brian. I got the system working using LO: https://secure.cbf.org/site/SPageNavigator/Halloween/HalloweenEmailGate.html
But when I embed the survey form in an LCMS page it isn’t working: http://www.cbf.org/chesapeake-style-halloween.html
  • It didn't prompt me to log-in in either instance.

edit: I also don't use LCMS, so someone might have to chime in if this works differently there. I suspect that something is just not right with permissions. It's a little tricky at first.

  • Both URLs should present you with a form to fill out.

The first one, when submitted, should take you directly to a page with this content:

The second takes you to a page with this:

Both are using the same form.

If you're using LCMS, why not put the page in a subfolder of the main folder it is in and then lock the LCMS page so only logged in users can see it?
  • Allison - good point. I was looking at it from the LO end. I'll give that a shot.
