Pulling a Query of Greatest Constituent Gift in a Given FY?

Options
Hi Blackbaud Community,

I'm pretty new to RE and customer support wasn't able to provide an answer to this. What I would like to do is pull a query of constituents along with their greatest gifts by FY and the date of those gifts. Ultimately, we want to know in what month major donors tend to give their largest gift so we can plan our stewardship and cultivation accordingly.

I also want to add that I don't think a first/greatest/latest report will serve me. The reason for this is because I want to be able to import it into Excel in a query-like list to organize it. If I pull it in Reports, I end up with information I don't want and I'm unsure whether I can get a clean list of greatest gift and dates of those gifts by FY.

Let me know if anyone has any ideas.

Best,

J

  •  You can export any query - I'm not sure what you mean by importing the query list into Excel? Have you had basic RE training? I think that the basic query and export classes would be really helpful. You can always export someone's largest gift information and I think that is what you're looking for?

Yes Karen, I have had basic training and I have the Fundamentals certification. And I know I can export any list (excuse me if I misspoke--I like to export the lists into CSV then edit in Excel), but I don't think I can export the information from a *Report* that is automatically populated like First/Greatest/Latest. I don't want just one person's largest gift information--I want a list of the largest gift given by each constituent within a given FY. And it's too many constituents to go through their individual records.

RE Mantra: Query is a grouping tool, not a reporting tool.

Using Largest Gift in Query will test criteria for only the one largest gift the Constituent has ever made.

What you want is a Constituent Export where you include multiple columns of "Largest Gift" and you can apply different years to each column you export.  For the Export you can use a source Constituent Query if you only want to look at certain donors, or "All" if you want everyone.

  • Jes,

You can export a report into a CSV file

From the report preview, click the Export icon (looks like an envelope with an arrow on top) and in the Format you can choose CSV from the drop down menu

But I would do this as John suggested - an export where I have Largest gift information for several years (you do this by selecting Largest Gift multiple times and putting date ranges and other criteria around them)
